Mouth Guards for children and adults
At Classic Smiles Dentistry, we encourage our more active patients to wear a mouth guard in order to help protect their teeth from any unfortunate accidents. Mouth guards help minimize the risk of broken teeth and injuries to your lips, tongue, face or jaw.
Mouth guards for children
Mouth guards are primarily used to protect a child’s teeth that are active in sports. They generally cover the upper teeth and are a great way of protecting the soft tissues of their tongue, lips and cheek lining. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) promotes the use of a dental mouth guard during any sports activity. Mouth guards, also known as sports guards, are crucial pieces of equipment for any child participating in any given sport. Though there are thousands of mouth guards available in today’s market, at Classic Smiles Dentistry, we take the time to discuss which type of guard would be the best for your child’s active needs.
Mouth guards for adults
Here at Classic Smiles Dentistry, we know your smile is one of your most important assets and protecting them is essential to your looks as well as your self-esteem. Similar to children, adults use mouth guards to protect their teeth from injury and damage while playing sports or for alleviating the habit of clenching and grinding their teeth known as Bruxism. Although several types of ready to use mouth guards are available, our dentist could advise our patients to use custom made guards designed specifically to their needs and size.
What is a night guard?
If you wake up with jaw pain, earaches, or headaches, or if you find yourself clenching or grinding your teeth, you may have a common condition called “Bruxism.” Some people do not even know they grind their teeth, as it often occurs when one is sleeping. If not corrected, Bruxism can lead to broken teeth, cracked teeth, or even tooth loss. There is an easy, non-invasive treatment for Bruxism: night guards. Night guards are an easy way to prevent the wear and damage that teeth grinding causes over time.
Our dentists, at Classic Smiles Dentistry, will make an impression of your teeth for a mouth guard that fits comfortably to ensure your teeth are protected from injury or damage.
